As we look around us, we can see reflections of what yesterday’s children have brought to the world and society we live in. Many individuals fail to process the world around them in this manner and just assume things are the way they are do to the slow gears of time moving forward. But when you examine closely many of the things we see and handle, it is difficult to imagine it any other way. But presume if you would, that those individuals who had a hand in the development of all the things we see around us and use, such as our laptops, cellphones, automobiles, buildings, and many other things….imagine those individuals did not do what they did in the manner and fashion that it presents itself. It is entirely likely that these things would still exist, but look and operate differently. Perhaps some things would not exist at all. Possibly some things would be much better or worse. What is difficult to escape from is the fact that the children of the past are largely responsible for some or many of our experiences of the present.
Early Childhood Training of our Children
The power of this kind of thinking causes us hopefully to come to grips with the critical importance of early childhood training. It is because of the impact children can have on all of our futures, we should all pause and think about what we can do to ensure the these future makers have the best quality education that we can possibly provide them. This is why the subject of early childhood training and the teachers that are instrumental in structuring effective training programs has been a focal point of learning theorists and education scholars throughout time. Over the centuries, what we learn and how we learn has evolved. Throughout this epic period of time there has been some earth shattering shifts in what is taught. Indeed the earth is not flat, though some may still cling to that notion. And while it is an amazing thing that humans even exist and that the very nature of existence is difficult to fully comprehend in terms of its origin…we can say with a large degree of certainty that evolution has touched us as a species in the most profound way. Just as we evolve, our teachers of our most precious resoureces, children, must evolve to keep pace with the most optimum environment that can nuture learning.
Teachers and Children: Who is Really the Student?
As we embark on this amazing journey as teachers…educators of the very young…those that will shape our futures, we are faced with an interesting dilemma. Is it the child that is learning primarily from their teacher or is the student truly revealed only after many years have passed. It is an interesting question to consider because as teachers if we go into the classroom that we are about to fill the void in the minds of these small children, we may actually be perceiving only a sliver of what is really happening. Consider the possibility that the child is there for you the teacher to learn. And that learning you derive from that child may occur over an expanse of time occurring both in the present as you teacher the young child and later in the future when the children of tomorrow teach us all.
